Madewell Pear Butter

When you're empty nesters and you have two pear trees, let's just say you have a lot of pears. We don't really eat canned pears and you can only eat so many fresh pears (even when you give away the majority of your pears). So, for the last few weeks I've been picking away making dried pears and pear butter. I mean, what else is there to do with them?

I have to admit that I have made 3 batches and it took 3 attempts to get a pear butter I liked. So, use this recipe and follow it completely or alter it however you like. Either way, this is the basic idea of how I made it and I'm sure whatever you do it will be delicious.

Madewell Pear Butter

by Lori Smucker, Little Country Niche

6 lb. pears (cored)

2 T. lemon juice

1 C. orange juice

Put in crockpot several hours on high until soft. Drain liquid. Process in blender or food processor and return to crockpot.

Add:

2 tsp. vanilla

2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

¼ tsp. allspice

¼ tsp. ground cloves

2 T. honey

Put on low in crockpot for about 6 hours. Stir occasionally. Seal in canning jars 10 minutes (until lids seal).

I hope you enjoy this on some delicious homemade bread or biscuits. Yummmm....slathered with butter of course!

Blessings,

Lori
